“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2 NIV)Jesus endured the cross for the sake of the joy set before Him. What was this joy? The prophet speaks of this joy in his classic treatise on the suffering servant in Isaiah 53:“He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:11 NKJV).The joy set before Jesus was seeing the labor of His soul… seeing the many justified… a glorious throng that no man could number from every nation, tribe, kindred, and tongue giving praise to God for the victory won at Calvary’s Cross. The joy set before Him was the glory of His Father’s name and the worship of the nations. And it was all for this joy that Jesus suffered, died, and rose again. Praise be to His name. All for This©2007 Words and Music by James MoonVerse 1With the weight of the world pressin’ down on Your backLord You climbed that hill.
